NHCLV is seeking a Clinical Data Specialist to work closely with our Quality and Population Health team on both internal and external initiatives. This person will work to ensure that project data and reporting is secure, accurate, timely and meaningful.

The Clinical Data Specialist’s duties include:

  • Creation and maintenance of healthcare datasets and reports using the electronic health record (EHR), other available software systems and business intelligence tools, and/or databases.
  • Collaboration with internal and external customers to determine optimal workflows related to data collection and management, and provides required documentation to various reporting entities.
  • Ensuring effective functioning of interfaces, health information exchanges, or other methods of transferring data to/from project stakeholders and recipients.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in health information management/informatics or equivalent work experience in health informatics or clinical data management.
  2. Minimum 3 years’ experience using Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), Power BI, and SQL Server tools or equivalent business intelligence software programs (for example Tableau).
  3. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a clinical research and/or health related field or equivalent.
  4. Strong understanding of computer processes and software applications, specifically web-based survey tools and Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualification:

  1. Experience working with and maintaining an electronic health record system, data exchanges, and interfaces.
  2. Health Information Management certification (HIM), Health Information Technology (HIT) certification, or equivalent.
  3. Experience or equivalent education working with computer databases and structured query language (SQL).
  4. Experience with data analysis using common statistical packages such as SPSS, R, SAS, etc.
  5. Understanding of health care industry regulations and compliance along with the ability to ensure system adherence to regulations and compliance standards.

Detailed Job Summary

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Clinical Data Specialist is responsible for creation and maintenance of healthcare datasets and reports using the electronic health record (EHR), other available software systems and business intelligence tools, and/or databases, in order to support the effective operation and efficiency of Quality and Population Health programs and initiatives for both internal and external stakeholders. Ensures effective functioning of interfaces, health information exchanges, or other methods of transferring data to/from project stakeholders and recipients. This person will work to ensure that project data is secure, accurate, timely and meaningful.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General Hours of Operation: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, as scheduled

Other: Some off-site work at other program sites

Out-of-town and overnight trips possible

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in health information management/informatics OR equivalent work experience in health informatics or clinical data management.
  2. Minimum 3 years’ experience using Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), PowerPoint BI, and business intelligence software programs (for example Tableau).
  3. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a clinical research and/or health related field or equivalent.
  4. In-depth understanding of medical terminology how patient data is charted.
  5. Ability to conduct system analysis, problem identification, and redesign.
  6. Strong data collection and management skills.
  7. Is assertive, confident and able to work with and train clinical staff (e.g. physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses).
  8. Strong understanding of computer processes and software applications, specifically web-based survey tools and Microsoft Office products.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Excellent organizational abilities, project management, and task prioritization.
  11. Ability to multi-task, work independently, use sound judgment and meet deadlines.
  12. Ability to work flexible hours.
  13. Must have reliable transportation and able to work in various locations throughout the Lehigh Valley.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Working in a medical office environment may be fast paced at times and require meeting deadlines within a narrow time frame. Working hours may often exceed the typical 8-hour workday and may require evenings or weekend work. This position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, lifting, stooping and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, photocopy machine, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
